" Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh ," St. Matthew 24:44. Are we ready to meet Christ? Have we been to the font, to the confessional; have we received His sacred Body and Blood in a state of grace? Have we presumed on His mercy? Do we scorn the Son of God and crucify Him afresh when we choose to willingly sin? These are serious thoughts to ponder, especially during Lent, the season that the Church has ordained as a time of reflection, penance, and salvation. But even here, with the modern Church worried over various ecological sins--the destruction of the rainforests, the impact of pollution and carbon monoxide levels in the atmosphere--have we truly made an effort to push through that veil of modernistic, self-serving theology and peer into what St. James calls "the perfect law of liberty," (2:25)?
